WordPopup is a Chrome extension and website that show the meaning, pronunciation, synonyms and examples of a word you select. This policy explains what data the extension and the website handle.

What we collect

WordPopup does not require an account and does not collect your name, email address, location or any other personal information.

Data sent to our dictionary service

When you select a word, the extension sends that word and your chosen dictionary language to WordPopup's dictionary service (hosted on Cloudflare Workers) to retrieve its definition, pronunciation and examples. This only happens when you select a word. We do not send the page address, page title or page content.

The word is used only to return the definition and is not linked to your identity. Like any online service, Cloudflare may process standard technical request data, such as your IP address, to deliver the service.

Data stored on your device

Your saved words, lookup history and settings, such as dictionary language and theme, are stored locally in your browser. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us. You can remove saved words at any time, or delete everything by uninstalling the extension.

Access to webpages

The extension runs on the pages you visit so that it can detect a word you select, show the popup next to it, and highlight words you have saved. This happens in your browser. The extension does not read, store or transmit your browsing history, page content, or what you type in input fields.

PDF uploads

If you open a PDF in the reader on wordpopup.com, the file is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to our servers.

This website

The website wordpopup.com uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they use. Google Analytics may set cookies and collect information such as pages viewed, device type and approximate location. The Chrome extension does not include any analytics.

What we do not do

• We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
• We do not use your data for advertising or tracking.
• We do not use your data for creditworthiness or lending decisions.

Children

WordPopup is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
